Simple Pleasures: A Package in the Mail

Don't you love getting packages in the mail? I do. Even when I know the contents in advance, it's still a bit of a thrill.

Expecting something in the mail is like Christmas in miniature: the joy of anticipation, the excitement when it finally arrives, the fun of unwrapping a box or envelope with my name on it. Even the most prosaic things, like socks or mineral makeup foundation (which happen to be the last two things I've ordered online), are more fun when they come by mail.

Here's a very NON-prosaic something that came in the mail for me the other day:

My very first "real" cycling jersey. I've always gotten by with t-shirts for riding, and they've worked okay (apart from the lack of rear pockets). But a kind and thoughtful friend had a jersey to spare and generously sent it my way.  Not just any old jersey, either, but an absolutely drop-dead gorgeous new cherry blossom jersey.

How nice was that?

Here I am, stylin' and profilin' with Iris (and matching the quilt behind us)

Rear pockets for keys and camera

It passed yesterday's road test with flying colours

Many, many thanks to my generous friend.

  1. Very nice! I wish you wonderful rides with your bike and jersey.

I know exactely what you mean about anticipating a package in the mail. I'm waiting for some yarn to arrive (from the UK). Can't wait to get it ...

  2. That is so cool! SO glad you can comfortably take the camera (and keys!) along with you now! I know I'd go nuts if I couldn't carry my camera, so I can only imagine what it must feel like for you!

  3. Thanks Deb - although your camera is a bit bigger than mine, to judge by your profile photo!

Regula - yarn from the UK! How fun. They have wonderful wool over there. What are you making?

  5. That is a lovely cycling top and it suits you very well. I'm still covered up in my goretex jacket when I go out, it hides the bulges so I don't mind too much, but some warmer weather before the summer is over would be nice!

  6. Thanks Pomona!

Anne - I got the goretex out again last night - our weather's very uncertain this spring. (In fact I could have used a jacket on Sunday but I was determined to show off that jersey!)

I wish someone would invent cycling shorts that covered bulges rather than creating them. It's that darn chamois. Too lumpy for words.
