Simple Pleasures: Fresh Potatoes

And I do mean FRESH ... just a few days ago these were still underground.

This is the second year we've bought new crop potatoes from a friend who has a small organic farm. The flavour is beyond description - intensely potato-y without being at all starchy. Juicy is almost the word. Store-bought taters taste tired in comparison with these lively young things.

I'm sure there are myriad ways to enjoy fresh potatoes, but we like them best simply cubed and sauteed in olive oil, then seasoned with salt and pepper.

Crispy outside, tender inside. And oh-so-fresh tasting.

Mmmmmm.

  1. Mmmm. I love taters, but hate the "starchiness" too!! I will have to find a local farmer and try them fresh. Your dinners always look so scrummy- I am anxiously waiting for my tomatoes to ripen, one or two a day just isn't enough!!!

  2. Yum!!! That looks SO tasty!!! When we go to the sandhill crane festival in March, were're in 'tato country. My last Ride the Rockies went through there in summer, and they passed out free stuffed, loaded, fresh-out-of-the-ground taters, perfect for a 97-mile ride in headwinds!

  3. Mmmmmm!!! Those potatoes are just how I love them!! :) Funny though now that you have written this I am realizing how relatively few potatoes we eat these days. The store ones are just not good and I think we've given up. But! We do have farmers market and I'm going especially to find potatoes!!! Thanks for the inspiration!! :)

Neato to learn you used to live here in SoCal!! What area, if you don't mind me asking? I'd love to hear how you chose Wisconsin!! I love to live vicariously through others!! Can't see us leaving soon enough for me...I have my favorite destinations, but as time passes I'm getting less picky!! LOL!!!

I found you originally for your Queen Anne's Lace crochet and realized right away I like all of what you do!!! I'm so glad you share so many great things!!! Thank you!!! :)
