Starting the Year Off Right...

...with yarn, of course!

On Friday I received a lovely package from Annie over at knitsofactocontaining my woolly winnings from her "Born & Bred" giveaway.

A beautiful book of Yorkshire-inspired knitting patterns...

...some absolutely gorgeous wool...

...with a woolly little sticker and exquisite card.

The yarn is gloriously soft and silky, and wonderfully pedigreed:

"100% British." Perfect for a confirmed Anglophile who has been wanting to flex her knitting muscles. (Those mitts in the second photo are calling my name. I've never knit cables, but it's high time I learned.)

Thanks so much, Annie, for this lovely giveaway. I look forward to knitting something British and beautiful in 2013.

~

And a happy, healthy New Year to all of my dear bloggy friends and readers.

What are your goals for 2013*?

~ ~ ~

*Mine are mostly fibre-related. I'd like to sell more patterns for publication, make more and better crochet videos, and (gulp) knit a pair of socks. In the intervals of yarny exploits I'd love to complete at least one 75-mile ride. (Double gulp.)
:)

  2. Hee Hee. You already know the Goatmother's New Year goal. :) Now then...I think you need that little hat that looks like an acorn top on the front cover of the lovely book you won. Congratulations, by the way. :)

    1. Perhaps I can knit the Goatmother some hair. :)

That tea cosy on the cover would make an awfully cute hat - or, without the top, a cowl.

      Thanks, Marigold!

  4. What a wonderful win! I have lots of goals too, quilty and fiber goals of course. I am working on a shawl right now that is the most difficult pattern I have ever attempted. I will finish it too.
    Happy New Year.
    Happy stitching.

  6. You are more than welcome Sue, enjoy :D

My husband will tell you that when drawing the giveaway, having entered the numbers into the random number generator I was checking the result off against the list of names, and let out a gleeful whoop of 'Yay, it's Sue!'

Good luck with your pattern aspirations ... and a 75 mile ride ... gulp indeed. But that said I'm sure you'll do it, and we'll all be cheering you on :D

  7. A very blessed and happy 2013 to you and yours Sue. What a wonderful win, it couldn't have gone to a lovelier recipient, the book looks so inspiring and the yarn such a luxurious beauty. I too would like to up my knitting skills to something of a more lacy status this year, we'll see x I managed to get a grip on knitting socks last year and it's one of the most thrilling achievements in my knitting life, have fun xox Penelope

    1. Thanks for the encouragement, Penelope - I don't know why I fear sock-knitting so much. It's a perfectly ridiculous phobia that I hope to conquer. Can't wait to see what you make this year! :)

Thank you for the words of encouragement, you super-productive knitter! If I could crank them out the way you do I'd have a lot more confidence. :)

  11. You are the perfect winner for that gift! We know something nice will come out of it (as opposed to the wool sitting in a drawer waiting, waiting, waiting to be made into something).

  12. Hey Sue, happy new year to you too.....I want to knit socks this year as well, maybe we can learn together...
Love the description of the wool 'wonderfully pedigreed' ....the 100% British, I have to admit is very special and the wrist warmers in the book look so soft and snug. I imagine you will already have them cast on and be click clacking away. For someone who has had her crochet patterns published, these will be a doddle....
    Congrats on your win....
I'm sure you will achieve your goals and then some this year.....

    1. Thanks Claire - not cast on yet but I hope soon. Do you have a sock pattern in mind? I'm going to follow Elizabeth Zimmerman's formula from the book "Knitting Without Tears". Simple and straightforward! :)

  13. You won ANOTHER giveaway?!?!? I certainly hope you are picking up an occasional lottery ticket!!! (Just teasing; I never buy them.)

Your yarn photo looks soft enough to touch. I wanted to stick my hand right into the computer screen!

One of my goals this year is more knitting. Cables really aren't bad at all. I learned with two crochet hooks when I was 13 or 14 (because I didn't have knitting needles then). If I could do it on the wrong tools, anyone can. :)

I do think a knit-a-long or cable-a-long could be the perfect motivation to get a project going and actually finish it!

    1. Ooh, a cable-a-long. Hmmm. Maybe we can get Astri of Apple Blossom Dreams to host it - she does great CALs! :)

  14. How come I don't go online for just a few measly weeks and I miss loads of good giveaways? I am gutted......however, like Penelope says, it always nice when it is someone you 'know' ....and like ;-)

Ouch 75 miles....sounds awful! Rather you than me, I am far too much of a wimp!

I clocked your scarf magazine pic on the side of your blog the other day, you are a clever lady Mrs. M, I'm sure there's plenty more of that in 2013!

    1. Gosh, I hope so. That pattern was 1 out of about 12 I submitted to various magazines, so right now the batting average is pretty low. :) I do hope to improve it!

Thanks Faith! And really 75 miles is attainable. I wanted to shoot for 100 but figured I'd better keep my goals reasonable.
