Bird on a Branch

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

A bird sits on a branch
thinking
of what, I do not know

worms or beetles or feathering his nest
what the wife and kids are up to
wondering if he'll get that raise
and whether the Dodgers can
stay in the top ten

Or maybe he's just enjoying the sun
and the view from the top of the
poplar tree

the chance to sit on a branch
and be warm
and think of nothing at all

  1. I think that he must be warming up his little birdie bones and perhaps composing his Spring Sonatas. Love his little outline up there, thanks.

    1. I think you're right. After I wrote the poem, I thought, "Of course what he was REALLY doing was getting ready to sing...."

  3. Or perhaps snickers leak
As he spies the 'coon chic
    Stealthly attempting to steal
Bird seed with gusto and zeal
When much to the racoon's surprise
The dead host tree falls before his very eyes
The collection of seeds goes everywhere
And spoils are claimed by every wing in the air
As stars circle the bewildered 'coon's head
Who must be thinking, "Why did I ever get out of bed?!?"

    (yes, it really happened)

    Brilliant poem by you!
    Love the photo manipulation, too!

    (yes, on a roll today)

    1. Dear Deb,
      what a web
of words both witty and fun
      you have left.
      (You're so deft!)
And now my reply is done.

      :)

  4. I have never been up a tree. I wonder how the view is from up there? If I could get up into one, I would be thinking of Peanuts - not worms.

    1. Well, as the French say, "a chacun son goût." (Which as we all know, means "One bird's worms are another goat's Peanuts.")

And what do you mean you've never been up a tree? What about the Stump of Wisdom?

      :)

  5. Cute shot! I've ever wondered if birds actually think!

    1. I never have either until the line suddenly popped into my head (A bird sits on a branch/thinking). And it was all downhill from there. :)

  6. I thinkg birds are free, they don't have to think. They just do what they've always done. :-) Of course, I too think what they might think when they see me sitting on a b(ranch)ench.

    1. You're right, Regula. That's why it seemed funny (to me) to speculate about this bird's thoughts - and to imagine it thinking about things a human would think about. :)

  7. So nice poem..sadly, we can't get to know what birds and animals think of. But we can guess, just like you did in the poem :)

  8. Lovely poem and I think the birds are just enjoying the view and searching for something to eat. Hugs Judy
