A Card (and Necklace) for Little C

I'm not a scrapbooker, but I do love to make cards. It's so fun to get out the paper and markers and scissors and glue, and start cutting and drawing and scattering glitter.

A mermaid-minded little niece recently had a birthday. I wanted to make her a mermaid card, but I knew I couldn't draw an entire mermaid. I thought I might just manage a creditable tail....

Which led to this card with the mermaid swimming off the edge:

The tail came out pretty well, I think.

A few cheerful fishes and sea creatures rounded out the composition. I'm sure the crab is wildly inaccurate from a scientific standpoint, but he looks properly cheerful - and I was very pleased with the smiley starfish and the hand-cut purple fronds.

Of course every small mermaid needs a mermaid-y necklace (preferably crocheted and custom-designed)....

Happy birthday, little C. Swim safely! :)

  4. Brilliant card!!! I'll have to try that in a quilt sometime... stitching the part of the idea I can and letting the rest be off the edge! Brilliant!

Hope C loved this special card and necklace! (Necklace, by the way, is wonderful!)

    1. Thanks Deb - I felt it was a rather creative solution to my artistic deficiencies. And in a quilt it would look very avant-garde - great idea! :)

    1. Thanks Ginnie - he/she does. (Do crabs have genders or are they hermaphroditic? Must look that up.) :)

  6. First off, I love the crab. He is quite, well, crabby looking...and happy. Happy is important. I also LOVE the picture of the Dame's Rocket that is your new header! Oooo! Ahhhh!!!! But that necklace is just divine. Truly it is. I would wear one like that in a NY minute! If the Goatmother would make me one. I don't suppose you would do a tutorial on such a gem?

  8. Awww so cute.

    I love glitter.

I have not used glitter in a dog's age.

Perhaps it is time for me to resume using glitter.

  12. Glitter and mermaid tails - just perfect. I am a sucker for mermaids. I think what you have done is a grand idea - it's difficult to draw faces and capture just the look you want. Happy Birthday to "C"!
