First Snow, Last.... ?

On Saturday evening, I took a sunset walk.

On Monday morning, it snowed.

In between - on Sunday afternoon - I did this:

Possibly for the last time this year.

It doesn't look it, but boy was it cold. Though the ambient temp was around 45, wind chills were down in the 20s (that's below 0 in Celsius). Brrrr.

Even the moon was shivering.

Riding was such a chilly proposition, we kept finding excuses to stop for photos....

Where's Tallulah?

Some clouds came up. Rather gorgeous clouds, but they blocked what little warmth the sun was giving.

My fingers were freezing - time to call it a day. And possibly a year.

I want to thank you all for riding with me in 2013, with extra thanks to those who sponsored me for Bike MS. Not a ride did I take without thinking of this blog, and all of you, wishing you could see all the lovely things I was seeing. Together we've gone 1397 miles this year - not a lot compared with serious cyclists, but a record for me. It's been fun.

Let's do it again next year, shall we?

P.S. Who knows, there may be a ride or two left in the season for me ... so perhaps this valedictory post is premature. But it will have to be a heck of a lot warmer to get me out on my bike again! :)

  1. Your first snow, and I see that Wetcreek in southwest Louisiana is going to freeze before we do here at the Beltway Apartment in The Netherlands. Amazing! Keep warm, Sue. Congratulations on the prestigious biking miles. Linda@Wetcreek Blog

  3. The first snow always looks so pretty but I'm hoping we won't be seeing any here for a while. Congratulations on all those cycling miles that's quite an achievement, I hope you found Tallulah! :)

  7. Yes, we had first snow today, too! I officially opened bread baking season in our home - it's cold enough for that :)

  8. Here's to unexpected warm days that bring out long frozen flowers and shivering bicycles and their owners! Just remember, I got in a 60-miler in Moab for Thanksgiving one year, and although I'd be hesitant to repeat it, there was that multi-layered, deeply frigid and tortuous New Year's Eve 60-miler...

I can't tell you how much I love that gorgeous framable portrait of Tallulah on the leaf!

  9. Awwww...snow...it will be so cozy!?! We just put the scooters away yesterday and today is lovely but who would have know. :-) Hoping you can get another ride in but 1397 is admirable to say the least.

  10. Lovely pics Sue and I do like your bike with its gorgeous colours; well done for covering so many miles upon her. Please do keep Tallulah warm for she was obviously trying to heat herself up in among those lovely fallen leaves. Joy x

  11. Ooooh, too cold for me....your mileage is brilliant, beats my......0 miles cycled! I am not a good cycler, but the roads are also not that safe here, windy and full of fast driving tractors. My boys cycle a lot around our yard, maybe I should do a bit of that. Its always lovely to see the changing seasons with you.x
