Olive Twist, worked in the crisp yet drapey Rowan Creative Linen, features a fun twisted-loop technique and an easy two-row repeat. The pattern can be sized up or down by simply working more or fewer rows.

Here's a photo of the freshly-blocked shawl (did I really use all those pins?):
Starting June 13, the Olive Twist Shawl will be featured as the Summer Crochet-Along pattern on the Love of Knitting Blog (click here for more info; kits are available here).

The Honeydew Scarf, worked in the beautifully soft Valley Yarns Longmeadow, features a quick-growing, leafy openwork pattern with bead-tipped leaves at either end:

They're lovely patterns, congratulations for having them published. I especially like the idea of using linen, as I can't wear most wool.

ReplyDeleteI have just started the Olive Twist Shawl and am not sure if I am twisting the long loops correctly. Is there a tutorial? I checked the LoveofCrochet.com site like the pattern suggests, but cannot find any help or reference to the technique on the site. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi Karen - there's no tutorial yet that I know of. I believe the crochet along starts tomorrow - I think they'll be giving more detailed instructions there. Meanwhile you can look at the questions and answers at the bottom of this page: http://www.loveofknitting.com/blog/blog/2014/05/29/summer-crochet-along-coming-soon/
DeleteTwisting the loops is pretty easy, really. Normally, to stitch into a chained loop, you would insert your hook from the front of the piece, under the chains, to the back side, and form your stitches. In the Olive Twist, you insert your hook from the back of the piece, under the chains, to the front. Then when you make your stitches in the chain loop, the loop will twist itself.
Thanks for commenting, and be sure to check out the link for more information. :)
I was able to figure out how to twist the loops. I was having trouble turning the piece clockwise to start the first twisted loop of the row, but now it is working out fine. Thanks.
DeleteReceived my copy of Love of Crochet.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say Congratulations!
