Welcome to Improbable Yarns ~ YOUR Fantasy Yarn Shop

Back in August, I wrote a post asking readers to describe their ideal yarn shop. So many wonderful ideas poured in, both here and on Ravelry (where the topic came up in a forum discussion), I thought you'd all like to see the results. With a few fanciful embellishments, of course. :)

Welcome to Improbable Yarns, Blogland's newest fantasy yarn shop! Conveniently located on the Blissful town square, overlooking beautiful Lake Cerulean, this magical store is open whenever you want it to be.

When you step through the door, you'll be greeted by a friendly employee and a cat or two. Albert, the store alpaca, will probably be hanging out by the spinning wheels. Fred, the store dog, knows where everything is and will guide you to any product on request. (Our magical animals are allergen-free, so pet them all you like.)

Tucked into antique cabinets, you'll find an amazing assortment of yarns, patterns, magazines, crochet hooks, knitting needles, spinning wheels, cross-stitch supplies, looms, fabric, flowers for dying, accessories, and more. Our yarns are conveniently sorted by weight for easy selection and comparison. Whether you're looking for animal fibres, silk, plant fibres, recycled sheet or tee-shirt yarn, you're sure to find just what you need. (And probably lots that you don't.)

See something you love but can't afford? Just step outside to the Town Square Money Tree and pick what you need. (But don't pick too much - this magical money works only at town square businesses.) We also offer free samples of every yarn we carry, so you can try before you buy.

You're welcome to sit and stitch in one of our cozy, comfortable chairs, or expand your skills in one of our many workshops. Bring your little ones if you like - we have classes for them too!

Overcome by the beautiful yarns? Take a break on the patio, where the weather is always perfect, and watch the boats on Lake Cerulean as you refresh yourself with our magical calorie-free cake and butter cookies. We also offer free fresh-roasted coffee, properly-made tea, sparkling water, and a selection of herbal infusions. And ice cream every Tuesday. (Magical ice cream, of course - no calories, and always your favourite flavour.)

Browse our leftover yarn bin and help yourself to something special. Trying to de-stash? Bring in your own leftover yarns for someone else to enjoy. And take advantage of our lending library - it's full of irresistible patterns and hard-to-find books.

Bring in your finished objects (with yarn receipts) for a 10% rebate - which means more money to spend on yarn!

Cyclists will love our adjoining bike shop, Pedal and Purl. And while you're here, be sure to visit all the other great stores on the Blissful town square: Back to Back Chiropractor and Massage, Bead Bop, Good Food Gluten-Free Bakery, Dark as Night Chocolates, Winetastic, Wheat the People Artisan Breads, Blissful Pizza, Chez Sue Bistro, Naantucket Fine Indian Dining, Vashti's Lingerie, Tea for Deux, and Konichiwa Kitty.

Many thanks to my fellow architects and business planners: from the original post, Beth, Linda, Sandra, Una, Stitchy, kathy b, Snowcatcher, Mere, Kay, Gracie, Linda, Penny, and Astri; on Ravelry, coffeedog, GreenWoman, and vashtirama.

All the business names used in this post (except Pedal and Purl) came out of my own head. Any resemblance to actual businesses is purely coincidental. :)
