A Bit Chilly

...is one way to describe the weather this week.

Yesterday we woke up to ice on the windows and an outdoor thermometer reading of 25 below zero.

Brrr!

The wind chill has been brutal, topping out at -52º on Wednesday. Area schools are closed, mail delivery is suspended, and even our bank is keeping reduced hours. (That's a first in my memory.)

Tomorrow we should get back on the right side of zero, and weekend temperatures are forecast to reach the 40s. Winter in Wisconsin is a delightful thing. :)

Cold weather is crochet weather. Here's what the Micawber hook has been producing:

Cable swatches for The Book
Mitt samples for upcoming pattern release

There has also been much drinking of tea and snuggling under blankets. Weather like this makes us realise how rich we are in shelter, food, and comfort.

~

I've been doing a little jewelry-designing at work, and will be teaching classes on these projects over the next month or two:

I think I've mentioned before that I love my job. :)

Can you believe it's the end of January already, and winter half over? The sun has been creeping ever-so-slightly northwards, and staying up a little later each day. Spring may seem but a distant dream, but it'll be here before we know it.

How's winter treating you?

  1. Lovely frosty picture at the top. You have been very busy making colourful crochet squares with interesting designs too. I love the jewellery, especially the necklace at the bottom!
It's certainly VERY cold where you live right now! I'm not surprised that schools have been closed and even the postman has been taking a pause. Keep warm!

  2. As you might remember, we are new to his northern thing. LOL Thirty four years in Florida may have made us a little "soft". Add to that a "new" house that is quite old - 166 years old. This week the "learning curve" gave us a frozen pipe to deal with. We won!!! Yay us!

Winter has given me a beautiful view out the back window at pine and fir trees and plenty of time for tea and knitting.

Your jewels and crochet are beautiful. I especially like that last photo. Simply lovely.

  6. Wow your squares are so lovely! I notice our Wisconsin sun staying out a bit longer now! I had a happy January. Friends visiting to ski by lake GEneva and to enjoy our home. Lots of knitting went on. We miss the horses as the Barn has cancelled due to weather, but February will bring better weather we hope. So we can volunteer again

  7. BRRRRR! And here I am freezing at 18 and 19. Tennessee has been up and down in temps and that's not helping my mindset. But I have books to read and cross stitching to do. Lovely squares and looking forward to seeing the mitts. Stay warm.

  9. I love the bracelet and necklace and that blanket will be warm. It is cold here and we have had a couple of inches of snow...nothing too bad compared to the rest of the cold world.

  12. The picture of the frost on the window brought back so many memories, Sue. Thank you for sharing it. I'm familiar with that kind of cold, but I am so glad those experiences are behind me. Your crocheted squares are beautiful, and so is your jewelry. I've watched one of my sisters make jewelry ~ It is painstaking work. I hope the rest of the winter is kinder to you. Meanwhile stay warm!
