A Giveaway!

This month, Mr. Micawber's Recipe for Happiness is celebrating its first anniversary. A year's worth of cycling, crochet, poetry, cooking (and of course eating) - with a bit of cleaning and what-have-you whimsy thrown in - has been inflicted upon a longsuffering Blogland; and Blogland has responded with grace and generosity.

To mark this auspicious occasion, and show my gratitude to all who read this blog, I am holding a crochet-and-chocolate-themed giveaway.

There will be 2 lucky winners. One will receive this lovely book:

Edited by Robyn Chachula, Simply Crochet is full of patterns for beautiful garments, accessories, and more, all designed to be made from only 1 - 5 skeins of yarn.

You can see all of the patterns available in Simply Crochet by clicking here. (This will take you to the Ravelry sign-in screen. Sign in, and you'll be taken straight to the pattern page for the book.)

The other winner will receive this book, equally lovely (with guaranteed appeal for all you motif-makers out there):

More than a hundred wonderful motifs, and ideas for using them, can be found in this handily spiral-bound tome.

(You can see all the motifs here on the Ravelry book page - click on these words, then sign in, to be taken straight to the book page.)

To enter, simply leave a comment below telling me what you like to crochet, and which book you'd like to win, and your name will be placed in the drawing for that book.

A note to entrants: I do need to be able to contact you in case your name is drawn. If you're commenting as "Name/URL", or "Anonymous", please include an e-mail address in your comment. If you'd rather not do that, please leave your name in the comment and send me an e-mail through my profile page. That way I can be sure to include you in the drawing.

This giveaway is international, and will remain open until midnight of March 31st, U.S. Central Daylight Time. The 2 winners will be drawn (or randomly generated) on Monday, April 2nd.

But wait! I almost forgot the second half of the giveaway. (What was I thinking?)

To sweeten the deal, each winner will also receive a bar of fine Green & Black's chocolate:

Warm and spicy...

...or cool and minty.

Chocolate and crochet. Life doesn't get much better than that.

Good luck. And happy St. Patrick's Day!

Had to work in my St. Paddy's Day
mini-quilt somehow. : )

  1. Congratulations on your anniversary!
The Simply Crochet book is one I've had my eye on for a while :)

My favorite projects are shawls and scarfs (quick and a fashion pop), but I'm getting back into a blanket or two. They're great for gift giving.

  2. This is indeed a very auspicious occasion, and crochet and chocolate are by far the best things to Mark it with.

If I were lucky enough to win I would choose the motifs book as I am always thinking of my next blanket!

    Thank you!

  4. Congrats on your first year of blogging! I'm big into scarves and small projects. If I get to be the lucky winner I would love the 21 projects book, as I already have the other book and love it. Chocolate is always a good thing and Dark is even better. Have a beautiful weekend.

  6. Congratulations on the first year of blogging! My blogversary slipped right past me.

I like to crochet baby blankets and prayer shawls mostly. I would like the Simply Crochet book. The cool minty chocolate looks wonderful.

  7. How nice of you to do this! Reading your blog is quite thanks enough, if you ask me. I enjoy it! If the Goatmother were to choose, perhaps she would choose the Motif one, since she might actually make me a coat. Someday. I can hope ... and she might get ideas for a nice colorful one.
At any rate, I want to thank YOU for your blog. You have a lovely way of putting things and of seeing the world. Plus, your tutorials are about the clearest ones I've seen. So thanks to you, Mrs. Micawber, and Happy, Happy Anniversary! May you have many more. :)

As for your wonderful giveaway, I'm partial to the motifs book...and Maya Gold is my favorite bar from Green & Blacks. Yum! Anyway, thank you for this generous giveaway, Sue. Happy blog anniversary!!

  10. Happy Anniversary. Thank-you for the giveaways. I would choose the Crochet Motifs book as I am always wanting to learn new patterns and stitches. I am working on a scarf right now but have crocheted blankets, throws, sweaters, hats, scarves, dishcloths, dishtowels, facecloths and ornaments. Sharon sdkeizer@gmail.com

  13. I am so happy that I found your blog. I look forward to seeing a post from you. I crocheted for years, mostly afgans, and then my Dr. suggested that I stop due to neck pain. So I did not crochet for a few years. All the wonderful projects I have seen in blogland has made me organize my hooks and get some projects started. (I have to make those slippers you posted).
If I should win, I would love the motif book. I have never had that brand of chocolate, but really ius there bad chocolate?
Thanks for the chance to win.

    1. (Sorry. Didn't mean to spam you. Little mix-up with the preview - publish buttons.)

      Happy anniversary!

I got into crocheting thanks to amigurumi, and still adore making little dinosaurs from PlanetJune (shameless plug!) although I've moved away from that. I've recently started making myself fingerless gloves (I LOVE your Wickerwork Mitts!). However, the thing I like to crochet the most is baby blankets for donation. It's wonderful to know that the blankets I make with so much love are used and loved.

Corny, I know. But what can I say? Having that motif book would be fantastic: it would give me more options for my blankets!

  16. Congrats! I've really enjoyed reading your blog for a while now, mostly due to the crocheting, but also because of your wonderful pictures you take while you are out cycling :)

I love crocheting so I don't think I could pick just one thing that I enjoy more than any other! I think for the great variety and instant gratification that hats are my go-to item to crochet!

Happy St.Patty's Day to you too :)

  17. Well, you are so sweet to be giving things away on your Blog Birthday!! :) And chocolate and crochet?? What a fantastic combination!!!

I can vouch for the motif book, it's a neat one!!!

Let's see...I like to crochet scarves the most. They are pretty quick to do and are useful!! :) I am usually too practical for my own good and would love to try something large, like a blanket. And yes, a blanket _is_ useful but I'm afraid my inability to wait for things would get in the way and it would be a scarf anyway!! :)

If I were one of the lucky winners I'd choose Simply Crochet and Mint Chocolate - my favorite thing to mix with chocolate is mint!! :) Thank you so much for blogging!!

  18. Happy Blog-day to you! Love your blog!

Almost everything I crochet is a small project, mostly to do with the fact that I have a 3 y/o son who takes up most of my time. My favorite thing to crochet is amigurumi, but I also love to make accessories like belts, gloves and scarves.

If I happen to be one of the lucky ones, I would go for the motifs book, so many options with a good motif! <3

  19. Congratulations on your anniversary. It's always a pleasure to read you.

I love the crochet motifs. They would certainly help to minimize my stash.

  20. Hi there :) I love to crochet super tiny things (robots, pouches, tiny squid) and rugs and blankets! Congratulations on a year in blog land, and thanks for sharing your ideas :)

If it's me who wins I'd like Beyond the Square please, as then I can really start to branch out - I've just learned my first Tunisian Stitch :)

    Happy blogging, Catriona

  24. Dear Mrs M, Hello from England.

I'm new to crochet, and so far have done about 16 assorted granny squares, then I found your blog and have so far done three double thistle scarves!? It's becoming an obsession, and I logged on tonight to try a different pattern! Thank you for the time you put into this blog, you are a brilliant teacher. :)

  25. Well, first I've got somewhat of a fickle personality when it comes to choosing favorite/typical kinds of crochet projects. I tend to enjoy switching gears! I might crochet a potholder for the kitchen, quick and easy, then I feel like making an afghan... then I might feel like making a doll or stuffed animal, and next I might want to make something to wear. You just never really know for sure what my crochet hooks will be whipping up next!... As for which book I'd like, I think I'd like the motifs book. That looks like it's just bursting at the seams with FUN patterns to try! Thanks! ~tina

  31. Happy Happy! I would like the Simply Crochet book because I have the other one. I crochet mostly afghans and now a new grand baby, (my first) is on the way in August, so now Baby blankets and hats, sweaters, etc. are top of my list! Thanks for the chance to win.

  32. I have found you through meme rose's blog and am impressed it's taken you so little to figure out the pattern for her blanket. I have been reading through your blog and it's lovely! I will add you to my list of blogs to get inspiration from. This giveaway is wonderful and so generous. I have been addicted to crochet since I started a couple of years ago. I love crocheting blankets both to keep and to give away as presents. Both books look great but I think I'd prefer the Motifs one as these look very varied and colorful. Thank you so so much!!
