Simple Pleasures: Grapefruit
Consider the lovely grapefruit: the blushing rind, of a colour only God could make; the luscious pink flesh within. Sliced open and topped with a sprinkle of brown sugar, it's an elegant dessert, or a delicious bridge between breakfast and lunch.
Eating grapefruit somehow lifts my spirits. I don't know if it has special anti-inflammatory properties, or if there's some kind of aromatherapy involved, but it just makes me feel good. I love to squeeze the juice from the empty rind, releasing a bit of grapefruit oil at the same time. The scent is at once exhilarating and calming—the perfect antidote to cold weather and grey skies.
