Another Necklace for Judy's Doctor

Judy, my friend and partner in beading crime, had rather a rough winter of it. Pain from arthritis and other health problems kept her housebound for several months, and this last Christmas was the first in years that she didn't commission me to create several necklace-and-earring sets for her winter gift-giving.

Now that spring is here, Judy's feeling a bit better, and her interest in beaded jewelry is reviving - enough to invite me over for a beading pow-wow, which involves a pleasurable review of her bead stash and the planning of a few necklaces, to give or to keep in the months to come.

Judy sees her cardiologist every spring - and every spring she brings to the appointment a necklace and earring set for the lucky Dr. M. I wonder how many other of Dr. M's patients give her handcrafted jewelry? (Click here to see last year's set.)

Here is this year's set, made with a nod to the current colourblocking trend:

Lapis and blue lace agate, with Bali sterling silver accents

Lapis always makes me think of ancient Egypt, and these silver beads seem to heighten the impression. (As usual, Judy chose the beads and necklace length, but left the design up to me.)

The earrings are small and simple, so as not to compete with the necklace:

I hope Dr. M enjoys her gift as much as Judy enjoys giving it.

  1. Lapis is one of my favorite stones - like the night sky. It reminds me of ancient Egypt as well. Back when the Goatmother lived in San Jose, one of her favorite things to do was go to the Egyptian museum. You're necklace reminds her of that...I hope Dr. M likes it too. It is beautiful!

  2. Wishing your friend further increased health with the warming weather. The jewelry is divine!

  3. Wow! your jewelry is just fantastic.

  4. Very, very beautiful. It looks like something that should be on display in the British Museum, that's how lovely it is.

  5. Lucky doctor - that's lovely! It does have an Egyptian sort of feel to it :-).
I'm just about to dip my toe into beading - going to attempt to make some stitch-markers..

  6. Beautiful, love lapis, lucky doctor. Hope your friend has a gentle spring.

  7. WOW what a lovely present. i have a lapis necklace and earrings. I had forgotten! I must look them out and wear them. Thanks

  8. What a pretty set...the blues are lovely, I do love blue, I forget sometimes how much!

I like peeriemoots idea on makin starch markers, on my latest project I resorted to bits of White wool, which to be honest were a pain, I have a good stash of beads, I must put it on my list.

  9. Gorgeous. And I love lapis, too - something about the intensity of the blue that is delicious.

  10. I had pictures in my head what your commission might look like when you told me you are making more jewelry... but I can never imagine the beauty you come up with. I love the colorblocking on the first one! And I'm with Marigold. I love lapis!
