Happy April

Did anyone fool you yesterday?

Mother Nature did her best (or do I mean worst?) here. The last day of March was beautifully warm - in the low 60s - then temperatures plummeted overnight and we woke to snow and freezing winds on the 1st. (Sometimes April really is the cruellest month.)

But let the cold bite. It can't hold back these tiny soldiers, vanguard of a grassy host:

Soon their brothers will come marching over the brown land and the world will be green once more.

What happens when a crocheter gets desperate for Spring?

She crochets flowers, of course. Pattern to follow soon.

Thank you all, so much, for your encouraging comments on my last post. They really brightened my week - which I am sorry to say was rather stressful, as my Dad went back to hospital (sigh) and needed another surgery to relieve fluid buildup in the brain.

When life gets overwhelming, I tend to hide away and mentally lick my wounds. I avoid the computer and bury myself in soothing, familiar books (Louisa May Alcott, L.M. Montgomery, the Narnia Chronicles - though now that Dad is out of danger, I have graduated to the gentle satire of Barbara Pym). Oh, and I eat a lot of carbohydrates and drink even more tea than usual.

How do you respond to stress?

  2. Thinking of you and your dad. I used to bite my fingernails when I got stressed, but crochet helped me quit a few years ago. Now I just sit and agonize mentally, I guess, without the fingernail destruction.

  3. This sounds not too good. I'm glad to hear that your father is better. Like you I stay at home (called "The Cave") when I do not have to go to work. Otherwise I just do what I have to do. And I don't eat anymore. I wish you all the best. May spring find you again!!!! Regula

  4. Hello Mrs. Micawber! I am sorry to know about your Dad, I wish him to recover soon and get healthier.
Stress is such a thing that we cannot avoid completely in our lives. But better to tryt o deminish its effects. I think carfting and doing what you like can help a lot.
Those spring shoots are adorable! (Reading the Secret Garden now - there is so much description of palnts and how the grow).
Have a nice day! Sending blessings!

  5. Usually I work in my garden when I am stressed out! Or curl up on the couch. Here at the Beltway apartment I look for a project to do. There are lots. Thinking about your dad. Give him a hug from me. Linda@Wetcreek Blog

  6. So sorry things aren't going well for your dad, I do hope there is an improvement soon. I'm like you, I find books that I know, ones where I can be sure that the endings are good and there are no bits I don't like lurking in the middle, and I lose myself for a little while.

  7. When I'm having a hard time find myself reacing for Louisa May Alcott too......and (I'm slightly ashamed to say in public) Georgette Heyer. I haven't read any L.M. Montgomery, off to find out more. Juliex

  8. Just discovered she wrote Anne of Green Gables, which I have always planned to read (and no idea why I haven't so far). Now firmly on my list. Juliex

  9. I'm glad things are starting to look up a bit...
It's rainy here. How about for you? That's as good of an excuse as any to enjoy a good book and tea!

  11. I DID get fooled (briefly) yesterday. My local yarn shop sent out an email saying she was CLOSING! LOL APRIL FOOL!

I don't handle stress well ....I tend to get very snappish and I really hate being that way. Thankfully, stress doesn't come along too often.

Glad to hear that your dad is on the mend.

  12. My thoughts was still with you and your Dad. Stress makes me crazy and makes my RA hurt more. Right now my stress level is pretty high as we wait to hear about Mom's surgery so I'm reading. Anything I can get my hands on. I can't seem to get in the mood to cross stitch or crochet. So glad your Dad is better.

    Hugs,
    Sharon

  13. Well, we're buried in another eight inches (so far) this morning... With white stuff still falling at an incredible rate. It's not an April Fool joke, but I guess it will be really good moisture for the garden.

I should have known something was up with your dad again; you were awfully quiet. I'm glad he's out of danger and hope he's on the mend.

Your rainbow of flowers is just the perfect pick-me-up for another spring storm...

  16. So sorry yourDad had to go back to the hospital. I will keep you and your dad in my thoughts. I tend to isolate myself when I am stressed too. I usually just watch TV and eat. (Not anything healthy). I can knit simple stuff when stressed but anything requiring focus is out.

  17. Oh I love that burst of color in the flowers you made. :) I am late to reading posts, so I am sorry to hear about your Dad's health issues, but so very thankful that he is getting better. Sending prayers for him...and you, too. :)

Gosh, I think a cup of tea and a good book can truly relieve stress....but I also think crocheting does, too.

I cheer on the brothers in arms, that they will be victorious in their battle and leave a sea of emerald in their wake. :)

    Blessings always
